Situated in Ely, western Cardiff, The Forge Care Centre offers experienced nursing and dementia care in warm and welcoming surroundings. Purpose built in 2010, the home is set over four floors and finished to the highest standard. Each floor runs independently with its own distinct character and facilities which are personalised and enjoyed by residents, relatives and care teams alike.

Located on the A48 and just a few minutes’ drive from the M4 motorway, the home is accessible and close to handy local amenities such as shops, GP surgeries and a post office. On a wider scale, Penarth, Barry, Cardiff city centre, Newport and Torfaen are all within easy reach of the home. The Forge Care Home is happy, friendly and inviting, embracing that ‘homely’ atmosphere for both residents and loved ones to enjoy.

About Home

Outside Space

The Forge Care Centre is part of the Summerhill Group, which is an independent care home provider determined to set high standards in each of its nine care homes across South East Wales. It has 76 fully furnished single bedrooms, each with en suite facilities. Our care teams are vigorously trained and committed to enabling individuals to live the life that they choose in a place where they can feel safe and at home.

We have a hairdresser who visits regularly and is able to provide that special ‘pampering’ experience in your own home. Other services include regular visits from a Chiropodist, GP, Vision Call Opticians and Dentist when required. With eight living areas which are home to varying activities and beautifully landscaped and fully enclosed outside areas, the individuals living at The Forge Care Centre can enjoy their day to day lives visiting friends, entertaining guests or should they wish, in the comfort of their own room.

Situated in a central location on the A48 in Ely, Cardiff, the Forge Care Centre is a short drive away from the heart of Cardiff city centre with the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Castle, Welsh Millennium Centre and Welsh Assembly buildings all within close proximity. The heritage coast of the Vale of Glamorgan is a short distance away, offering beautiful scenic views of dramatic cliffs, rolling countryside and breath-taking coastline. The market town of Cowbridge and the historic area of Llantwit Major are both a 15 minute drive from the home.

Staffing Philosophy

All staff working at the Forge, whether in nursing, activities of daily living, cleaning, catering or gardening are committed to enabling individuals to have voice, choice and control over their lives in a friendly and homely environment. Together we strive to create a warm and harmonious environment where individuals can feel fulfilled and content and where their families and friends are always welcome as a continuing part of their loved ones’ lives.

Staff Training

We are committed to the training and development of our team members. Through the continued investment in our people, we not only contribute to the professional development of each member of staff, but also to the achievement of the highest standards in care provision across our homes. Whilst ensuring all team members undertake the required statutory and mandatory training vital for their role, team members are empowered to undertake more specialised training and development to enable them to deepen and extend their knowledge and enhance their skills, talents and capabilities.

Relative, October 2015

“I wanted to express my heartfelt thanks for the care and love you and your team gave my mum throughout the time she was at The Forge. At a time when the quality of care of old people is under scrutiny, I was deeply grateful that you were all looking after mum.”

Relative, September 2015

“ thank you so much for looking after my Bampie. Your personable approach and care for your residents is obvious and it gave me peace of mind knowing he was always in great hands. I would also like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my Nanna and making her feel part of your extended family. I know she will miss you all. Xxx”

Relative, March 2015

“I love my Mum so much and it's clear the Manager and staff love her too. She is really being looked after and for that the whole family is grateful. Well done all, Mum is happy and content. And we enjoy the visiting...everyone is so nice. And the food...just ask my Mum...she loves it!”
